IGNOU NEW BCOM(G) SYLLABUS

There is a big change in IGNOU this time. This will be considered the biggest change in IGNOU yet. This time your syllabus in IGNOU has been changed for Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM), and Bachelor of Science (BSC). IGNOU has made a lot of changes in these three programms.

Right now we are going to talk about the B.COM program.

Eligibility: 10+2 or it’s equivalent or BPP from IGNOU

The medium of Instruction: English & Hindi

Duration: Minimum 3 years and Maximum 6 years; offered in July cycle of admissions.

Fee Structure: Rs. 7,200/- for the full programme to be paid year wise @Rs. 2,400/- per year.

The fee to be paid in 1st year, including Registration Fee of Rs.200/-is Rs.2,600/-.

These are the five major changes made in your BCOM program:

• New Name
• New Credit System
• New Semester System
• New Syllabus
• New Subjects

1) New Name: From now on in your program B.COM changed to BCOMG.

2) New Semester System: Till now, the examination in your IGNOU used to be done once a year, but you will have your exam twice a year. From now on, your exam will be done every six months (June/December).

The 132 credits of this Bachelor’s Degree programme are spread over six semesters of 22 credits each.

In each semester, the students have to choose 4 courses in all from different categories of courses. While the courses under Core Courses (CC), Discipline Specific Electives (DSE) and Generic Electives (GE) categories are of 6 credits each, the courses under Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) are of 4 credits each.

3) New Credit System (CBCS): According to IGNOU, “The University has launched three Bachelor’s Degree Programmes- Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science- under the Choice Based Credit System. These are broad-based prorammes with a mix of disciplinary, interdisciplinary and skill-based courses. Each programme has 24 courses totaling 132 credits.”

4) New Syllabus: The university follows the credit system for offering all its programs. One credit is equivalent to 30 hours of study time for learners. To earn a bachelor’s degree, a learner must complete 132 credits in a minimum of six semesters (three years), with 22 credits per semester. 132 credits of the program are to be earned by completing the following categories of courses:

• Core Courses (CC) (Total: 72 Credits)
• Discipline-Specific Electives (DSE) (Total: 24 Credits)
• Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) (Total: 8 Credits)
• Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) (Total: 16 Credits)
• Generic Electives (GE) (Total: 12 Credits)
